About Us

(Updated 5-19-08)

MilitaryVetShop.com is owned and operated by Jim and Sheila Broumley from our home in Seattle, Washington. Sheila is the graphics artist who creates the images and I come up with the patches and the history articles. We wanted to use this space to let our customers know a little bit about who we are and why we created this shop.

Military Vet Shop products are made for veterans by veterans. Sheila and I each spent 10 years in service with a variety of experiences: enlisted and officer, active army and National Guard, infantry and aviation. Sheila was an army flight operations specialist who worked full-time at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Los Alamitos, California. I was a scout helicopter pilot in the 11th Armored Cavalry in Fulda, Germany, where I spent three years patrolling the East/West German border. Later, I served as a scout helicopter instructor pilot at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, then full-time with the Cal Guard. Some of the best friends we ever met and best times we ever had were in the army.

After our military service, I had difficulty finding my place in the "civilian world". Neither of us could ever find a workplace that ran with the same efficiency, professionalism, sense of mission, and camaraderie that we found in the military. After a few unrewarding years in the corporate world, and a couple of thankless sales and office jobs, we started our own computer consulting and website development company. We finally had the fulfilling jobs we were looking for. We just had to create it for ourselves through service to our clients. If you are interested in our bread and butter, you can read about that at www.ridinthewave.com. We've been running our company; Wave of the Future, since 1997.

Our daughter, Meaghan is married and on her own. We've replaced her with our "furry daughter," an Australian Cattle Dog by the name of Sydney Blue. We spend most of our workday sitting in front of a computer. However, we still take plenty of time out to walk Sydney or take a ride on our mountain bikes.

One day it occurred to me that I would like to have a t-shirt, and maybe a bumper sticker, that would identify me as a veteran of the 11th ACR. Especially in these times when there are so few who serve, I'm very proud that I did my part. I'm especially proud of the units that I served with and the shoulder patches I wore. But unfortunately I couldn't find one I liked. Luckily, I'm married to a graphics person, and I asked Sheila to make one for me. (Don't you just dig that tank?) I loved it so much that we started making more designs and for different units to share with other veterans. Just think, Military Vet Shop really got started because I couldn't find a decent "I rode with the Blackhorse" t-shirt!

Now that you know more about us, we hope that you'll feel comfortable contacting us. We definitely enjoy hearing from you to let us know what you like about the products and what you'd like to see improved. And if your unit is not represented, please let us know and we'll make a design for you. It won't cost you a thing unless you want to buy one of the shirts. If you like it, then we hope you'll tell a friend. I look forward to hearing from you!
