Ironsides," is the oldest and most recognizable armor division in the United

1st Aviation
Brigade | Golden Hawks In 1965, as the U.S. Army's involvement in
Vietnam grew deeper, the ubiquitous use of the helicopter in the new
"frontless" war became apparent. The Army had to have a means to maintain
tactical and administrative control over all of its divisional and
non-divisional aviation assets in country. It did this with the creation of the
1st Aviation Brigade, the Golden Hawks.

Division | First Team The 1st Cavalry Division, the "First Team," is
a heavy armored division assigned to the U.S. Army's III Corps. The First Team
is the largest division in the United States Army with nearly 17,000 soldiers
assigned. Their home base is Fort Hood, Texas but 1st Cavalry Division troopers
have fought around the world pursuing the Division's motto of "Live the

Division | Big Red One | The Fighting First The 1st Infantry
Division, nicknamed "The Fighting First" or "The Big Red One" after its
shoulder patch, is the United States Army's oldest division. They have provided
continuous service to the country since their organization in 1917. The 1st
Infantry Division currently consists of four brigade combat teams, a combat
aviation brigade, a combat support brigade, a separate cavalry squadron, and
various other attached units. They are home based at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Division | The Old Breed The 1st Marine Division is the largest unit
on active duty in the United States Marine Corps. Nicknamed "the Old Breed," or
the "Blue Diamond," the 1st Marine Division is also the most decorated unit of
its size in the USMC. The 1st Marine Division is the ground combat element of
the I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) and is stationed at Camp Pendleton in

2nd Armored Cavalry
Regiment | Toujours Pret The unit that most Cold War era veterans
knew as the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) has recently fielded the Stryker
Armored Vehicle and is now designated as the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment
(SCR). The 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment is a military unit within the United
States Army that can trace its lineage back to the early part of the 19th
century. 2SCR has the distinction of being the longest continuously serving
unit in the United States Army. The mission of the 2nd Cav is, upon receiving
orders, to rapidly deploy and execute reconnaissance and security operations
anywhere in the world and be prepared to fight upon arrival and win.

2nd Armored
Division | Hell On Wheels The United States Army's 2nd Armored
Division, nicknamed "Hell On Wheels," is one of the most storied shoulder
patches from World War II. The Second Armored Division's combat history in WWII
covered three years, two continents, and ten countries. The 2nd A.D. is
remembered by most Cold War veterans for its service at Fort Hood, Texas, with
a reinforced brigade forward stationed in West Germany. After participating in
the Persian Gulf War, the 2nd Armor Division was deactivated as part of the
downsizing of the Army in the 1990s.

2nd Infantry
Division | Second To None The 2nd Infantry Division's primary
mission is the defense of South Korea in the event of an invasion from North
Korea. The Warrior Division has approximately 17,000 soldiers who wear the
Indianhead shoulder patch, prepared to finish the Korean War, which was
technically never concluded. As a result, the 2nd Infantry Division is the most
forward deployed unit in the U.S. Army without being in direct combat.

3rd Armored Cavalry
Regiment | Brave Rifles The 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR),
stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, is at present the only heavy Armored Cavalry
Regiment in the U.S. Army. The other two regiments that make up the "Lucky 16,"
the 2nd SCR and 11th ACR, have been organized as brigade combat teams. The
regiment operates independently over wide areas and is a highly mobile force
that can conduct reconnaissance, security, offensive, and defensive operations.
It has over 320 armored vehicles (M1A1 Abrams tanks and M3A2 Bradley Fighting
Vehicles) and over 80 aircraft (including the AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter).
The regiment has a total strength of over 4,700 soldiers. The 3rd ACR is part
of the U.S. Army's contingency force and can rapidly deploy in the event of
emergency situations around the world.

Division | Spearhead The 3d Armored Division is a heavy mechanized
division of the United States Army that served in World War Two, the Cold War
defense of Western Europe, and the Persian Gulf War. The 3rd Armor Division was
reduced to zero strength in 1992, but not inactivated.

3rd Infantry
Division | Rock of the Marne The 3rd Infantry Division is a
mechanized infantry division of the United States Army based at Fort Stewart,
Georgia. Nicknamed the "Rock of the Marne," the 3rd Infantry Division's current
configuration consists of four Brigade Combat Teams (BCT), one Aviation
Brigade, and various support elements. The unit has served the United States in
World War I, World War II, Korea, the Cold War, and now in Iraq.

3rd Marine
Division | The Fighting Third The 3rd Marine Division is a marine
infantry division in the United States Marine Corps based at Camp Courtney,
Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler on the island of Okinawa, Japan. Part
of the III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF), the "Fighting Third" also
operates the Jungle Warfare Training Center at Camp Gonsalves on Okinawa.
Currently, the 3d MarDiv has assigned as subordinate units the Headquarters
Battalion, the 3d Marine Regiment, the 4th Marine Regiment, the 12th Marine
Regiment, the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, and the Combat Assault Battalion.
The Division currently has subordinate units stationed in Okinawa, Japan and
the state of Hawaii. Division elements are deploying to both Iraq and
Afghanistan. More

Division | The Ivy Division | The Iron Horse The 4th Infantry
Division, whose motto is "Steadfast and Loyal," is a heavy mechanized division
in the United States Regular Army. The 4th ID has a storied history from WWI,
WWII, Vietnam, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Arguably the most modernized
division in the army, the 4ID is currently organized with four Brigade Combat
Teams (BCT), a fires brigade, an aviation brigade, and various supporting
units. Currently home based at Fort Hood, Texas, the "Ivy Division" is in the
process of re-stationing to Fort Carson, Colorado, around unit deployments to

Division | Hourglass Division | Bayonets The 7th Infantry Division, the
"Bayonet," was a light division formerly stationed at Fort Ord, California.
Known at the end of the Cold War as "light fighters," this division has a

8th Infantry
Division | The Pathfinder Division | The Golden Arrow Division The
8th Infantry Division was a mechanized infantry division in the United States
Army. The 8th Infantry Division went by the nickname of the "Golden Arrow
Division" and later, the "Pathfinder Division." Both monikers were born of the
vertical gold arrow in the unit's shoulder patch. However, many soldiers
referred to the wearers of an 8ID patch as "Crazy Eights." The 8th I.D. served
proudly during World War I, World War II, in Europe during the Cold War, and in
Operation Desert Storm. The 8th Infantry Division was deactivated in Germany in
January of 1992.

10th Mountain
Division | Climb to Glory The 10th Mountain Division (Light
Infantry) is a non-mechanized, light infantry division that is currently part
of the XVIII Airborne Corps. Like the rest of the 18th Corps, the 10th Mountain
is designed to be rapidly deployed anywhere in the world. The 10th Mountain
Division is currently home based at Fort Drum, in upstate New York.

11th
Armored Cavalry Regiment | Blackhorse The U.S. Army's 11th Armored
Cavalry Regiment (ACR) is arguably the best trained mechanized military unit in
the world. The men and women of the 11th ACR currently have the task of
training active and reserve units at their home base of Fort Irwin, California.
Their primary mission is to act as the Opposing Force (OPFOR) for training
units on rotation to the National Training Center (NTC). Blackhorse troopers
also have deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. The 11th
Cavalry, also known by their nickname of "the Black Horse Regiment," has been
on the go since their inception. They have credit for twenty regimental
campaigns, earning the regiment's motto of "Allons," which means "let's go."

18th Military
Police Brigade | Ever Vigilant The Military Police Corps is the
uniformed law enforcement branch of the United States Army. However, some
Military Police (MP) units are designated as Combat MP units whose
responsibilities include convoy route protection, route reconnaissance and
straggler control, and handling of Prisoners of War (POWs). As one of these
units, the 18th Military Police Brigade is the most highly decorated Military
Police unit in the United States Army.

XVIII Airborne
Corps | Sky Dragons The XVIII Airborne Corps is the corps size
element of the United States Army designed for rapid deployment anywhere in the
world. Referred to as "America's Contingency Corps," it is the largest
warfighting organization in the U.S. Army. It is headquartered at Fort Bragg,
North Carolina and controls approximately 88,000 soldiers.

25th
Infantry Division | Tropic Lightning The U.S. Army's 25th Infantry
Division, nicknamed "Tropic Lightning," is headquartered at Schofield Barracks,
Hawaii and is assigned to the Pacific Command. The Division of nearly 17,000
soldiers stationed in Hawaii, at Fort Wainwright and Fort Richardson, Alaska,
focuses primarily on training for low intensity conflicts throughout the
Pacific region. However, the 25th ID is fully involved in the Global War on
Terror and deploys units in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in
Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. The Tropical Lightning
Division underwent the Army's modular re-organization in 2006. The 25th
Infantry Division now has four Brigade Combat Teams (BCT) and an Aviation
Brigade. The 1st and 2nd BCTs have fielded the Stryker combat vehicle, and the
4th BCT is Airborne qualified. More

MEDCOM | Victory Medics | One Team On October 17, 2008, the 30th
Medical Brigade became the 30th Medical Command (Deployment Support). It is the
Army's first deployable medical support command. While the unit maintains the
clear relationship with the U.S. Army Medical Command, the 30th MEDCOM is under
the operational control of U.S. Army Europe. The 30th Medical Command will
provide medical command and control to deliver timely and responsive support on

44th Medical
Brigade | Ready, Reliable, and Relevant The job of the 44th Medical
Brigade, now the 44th Medical Command, is to organize, train, deploy, command
and control their subordinate medical units to provide corps-level combat
medical, and community health support, across all levels of conflict and in
peacetime garrison environment. The 44th Medical Command is currently stationed
at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Fort Bragg subordinate units include the HHC 44th
MEDCOM, the 28th Combat Support Hospital, the 261st Medical Battalion
(Multifunctional), the 51st MED (VS), The 248th MED (VS) and the 257th MED
(DS). The 44th Medical Command also controls the 86th Combat Support Hospital
at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, the 14th Combat Support Hospital at Ft. Benning,
Georgia, the 6th Medical Logistics Management Center (MLMC) at Ft. Detrick,
Maryland, and the 1st Area Medical Laboratory (AML) and the 9th AML at Aberdeen
Proving Grounds, Maryland. More »

82nd Airborne |
All American The 82nd Airborne Division is an elite parachute unit
of the U.S. Army whose home base is at Ft Bragg, North Carolina. The Division
has the ability to begin combat operations anywhere in the world within
eighteen hours of notification. The primary mission of the airborne is airfield
and seaport seizure. Once entry is obtained by parachute, helicopter, vehicle,
or by foot, the terrain is secured to rapidly receive additional combat forces.
Every soldier in the 82nd Airborne Division is jump qualified and almost every
piece of combat equipment assigned to the Division can be dropped by parachute
onto the battlefield.

101st Airborne
Division | The Screaming Eagles Since 1974 the 101st Airborne
Division has been the United States Army's "Air Assault" Division. The Division
is capable of lifting, by helicopter, a 4,000 soldier combined arms force up to
150 kilometers behind enemy lines in one lift. Having approximately 281
helicopters, including three battalions of Apache attack helicopters, makes the
"Screaming Eagles" the most versatile fighting unit in the Army. It is the
world's only air assault division. The 101st consists of three infantry
brigades, Division Artillery, Division Support Command, the 101st Aviation
Brigade, the 159th Aviation Brigade, the 101st Corps Support Group, and various
other separate commands stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

173rd
Airborne Brigade | Sky Soldiers The 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat
Team (BCT) is a parachute infantry brigade of the United States Army that is
home based in Vicenza, Italy. The "Sky Soldiers" are the United States European
Command's conventional airborne strategic response force for Europe. As of June
2006, the 173rd Airborne Brigade was reorganized as part of the Army's
modularization process. Since that time, subordinate units of the 173rd BCT
consist of 1/503rd Infantry, 2/503rd Infantry (Airborne), 1/91st Cavalry
(Airborne), 4/319th Field Artillery, the 173rd Support Battalion (Airborne),
and the 173rd Special Troops Battalion.
